Met Gala 2017

An annual, prestigious event – The Met Gala – also known as the Met Ball, took place in New York last night, Monday 1st May 2017, to celebrate the grand opening to the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit. There have been some fabulous themes every year and this year was no exception, celebrating the exhibition by Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.

It is known as one of the biggest fundraising events in the city and celebrities from all walks of life fly in to attend the event. Today I’m taking a look at those outfits which were a definite hit with some that were perhaps a little bit too intense.

My ultimate fave looks of the evening

Screen shot 2017-05-02 at 16.47.44.png

Blake Lively – I literally cannot get enough of this stunning dress. Those of you who follow me on Instagram will know this was on my feed first thing this morning. A gold elegant dress, complete with bright blue feathers.

Screen shot 2017-05-02 at 16.43.00.png

Kim Kardashian West – Pulling off simplicity in the most elegant form. She looks stunning.

Screen shot 2017-05-02 at 16.40.54

Nicki Minaj – Always one to attend in a statement dress but this one was stunning.

Those standout looks

Rihanna – Yet again, she conquered the most talked about outfit of the night, but was she right to come walking in as a walking piece of art herself? I feel on this occasion she maybe took the theme a little too literally but everyone seemed to love it! I don’t dislike it but maybe I would have preferred the art to be inside the building rather than walking in.

Screen shot 2017-05-02 at 16.32.59.png

Kendall Jenner – I have such a love/hate relationship with her dress which was apparently made using just one string. The front was gorgeous however when she turned around she left little to the imagination which I felt was a bit disappointing. She usually looks stunning in her outfit choices so I was a bit disappointed on this occasion.

To finish off I’ll leave you with my fave meme of the evening!

26. Miss Magpie Fashion Spy

My featured business this week is… Miss Magpie Fashion Spy!

static1.squarespace.jpg

I have been meaning to feature this fabulous business for a while now. I first spotted Miss Magpie Fashion Spy on Twitter, which was then followed by Instagram which in turn has led to me becoming literally obsessed with trawling through the different designs on her website.

MMFS_020.jpg

Below I have included some of my favourite designs (and you’ll see the reason for my obsession!) These most fabulous fashionista designs are definitely something to brighten your day whatever the occasion. I also love how the designs are detachable, so when it’s finally time to take your birthday cards down from the mantlepiece (trust me, in my household it takes a while to admit that a birthday is over..) then they can be popped into a cute pretty frame and treasured forever!

MMFS_019+(product+shot).jpg

These gorgeous illustrations are drawn by Niki Groom who has worked with some of the biggest names on the high street and has been featured in fashion magazines and blogs which are famous in the fashion world.

static1.squarespace.png

It’s easy to see why. Her designs truly represent an essence of fashion that every lady (or man) aspires to. I love how each design is so unique and within her stationery range there is something for every occasion. Be aware though, these designs are too fabulous to give away – so you might just end up buying one for yourself and having to buy another for your friend/family/cat.

25. Miss Milly

My featured business this week is…Miss Milly!

Screen shot 2015-11-17 at 21.32.10.png

Miss Milly are a wholesale jewellery business that I came across when I attended Pure London last February. Launching in 2012, they have some stunning pieces which look like miniature pieces of art!

Usually I’m not overly keen on large designs in jewellery unless I’m wearing a fairly plain, simple outfit, however all of these designs seem so versatile that I feel I could quite easily adapt an outfit to the design of the jewellery I choose to accessorise with.

I have a super long wishlist of jewellery from Miss Milly, most of which will definitely be going on my Christmas list this year. The colours are absolutely gorgeous and they can be dressed up for a night out or can be worn in the daytime to work or out with friends. All jewellery is nickel-free, lead-free and cadmium-free.

Every item has free delivery in the UK and comes with free gift packaging – the perfect way to shop for Christmas gifts!

After buying my gorgeous faux fur scarf from Miss Selfridge recently, I have gone navy obsessed! Navy is definitely the new black for me so when I came across this necklace (and matching bracelet!) on the website I knew it had to go top of my wishlist for Christmas.

Screen shot 2015-11-17 at 21.34.15.png

I have received three beautiful pieces from Miss Milly to review with each item delicately wrapped in a purple tissue paper, they were beautifully presented. The first was this stunning long heart necklace. Decorated with intricate detail, this pretty necklace has a long chain with a heart charm. I was pleasantly surprised by this necklace as I often find these to be made of quite a thin metal. This necklace however, felt well made and durable. £11.85

The second piece was this set of starry earrings. Besides my pearl earrings that I literally wear on a daily basis, I go through phases of getting addicted to wearing the same pair of dangly earrings. I feel like space, stars and planets are definitely in trend for Autumn/Winter 2015 so I’ll definitely be using them to glam up my evening Christmas party outfits! I love the different colour metals used, it definitely gives them that unique, handmade look. £12.45

My favourite piece that Miss Milly has been kind enough to send through to me has to be this blue disc bracelet. I loved the stones in this bracelet and love that it is elasticated meaning it is so easy to put on and take off. When holding the bracelet up in the light the stones sparkled with a rainbow of colours. I will definitely be taking this on my holidays next year when I jet off to Dubai. The perfect way to accessorise a cute holiday outfit!£16.50

Inked Shop Review

Usually I only tend to review businesses from here in the UK but as this is a fashion related post, I’ve decided to go international as I absolutely love this brand!

Inked Shop, based in the United States, provides women’s and men’s clothing, merchandise and homeware from many alternative designers. They offer reasonable International Shipping although be aware you may need to pay a customs charge on delivery.

I absolutely love the different designers on Inked Shop and I especially enjoy anything Disney related. So imagine my delight when I came across this Frozen inspired T-shirt by Black Market Art! I absolutely love it. The design is so cute and whilst I normally don’t wear T-shirts because of the neckline, I really loved the scoop neck on this.

#LoveMe Challenge – Day 7

Prompts

One thing that’s just for you

One thing I absolutely love is to be creative. I love to draw, paint, colour, make collages, photograph and design new outfits. I have had a few people ask me why I don’t pursue more of a creative role in my profession. I think elements of marketing and certainly now working in events, are creative. I am however, reluctant to pursue a creative career. I studied a media degree at university which I absolutely loved it and I received a 1st for my fashion photography final major project but my desire to continue on into employment within this area expertise just was not there. Looking back now, I think something such as a creative director for photo shoots would have been quite a fun career path – maybe one day!

I enjoy the time that I do work on creative projects and I don’t think I would want to spoil that feeling by associating the pieces I am working on with deadlines. This is why I would say my creativity is just for me. (As well as anyone who visits me to see an abundance of sketchbooks and paintings!)

Disney Drawing

I’ve recently got really into drawing! Usually I’m not very good at it but I do find something quite relaxing about it when I’m just copying a design. So I recently jumped onto Pinterest and scrolled through to find a few cute Disney designs and now I’m even contemplating getting one as a tattoo! What do you all think? Any recommendations as to which character I should draw next?
