Met Gala 2017

An annual, prestigious event – The Met Gala – also known as the Met Ball, took place in New York last night, Monday 1st May 2017, to celebrate the grand opening to the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit. There have been some fabulous themes every year and this year was no exception, celebrating the exhibition by Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.

It is known as one of the biggest fundraising events in the city and celebrities from all walks of life fly in to attend the event. Today I’m taking a look at those outfits which were a definite hit with some that were perhaps a little bit too intense.

My ultimate fave looks of the evening

Screen shot 2017-05-02 at 16.47.44.png

Blake Lively – I literally cannot get enough of this stunning dress. Those of you who follow me on Instagram will know this was on my feed first thing this morning. A gold elegant dress, complete with bright blue feathers.

Screen shot 2017-05-02 at 16.43.00.png

Kim Kardashian West – Pulling off simplicity in the most elegant form. She looks stunning.

Screen shot 2017-05-02 at 16.40.54

Nicki Minaj – Always one to attend in a statement dress but this one was stunning.

Those standout looks

Screen shot 2017-05-02 at 16.36.12.png

Rihanna – Yet again, she conquered the most talked about outfit of the night, but was she right to come walking in as a walking piece of art herself? I feel on this occasion she maybe took the theme a little too literally but everyone seemed to love it! I don’t dislike it but maybe I would have preferred the art to be inside the building rather than walking in.

Screen shot 2017-05-02 at 16.32.59.png

Kendall Jenner – I have such a love/hate relationship with her dress which was apparently made using just one string. The front was gorgeous however when she turned around she left little to the imagination which I felt was a bit disappointing. She usually looks stunning in her outfit choices so I was a bit disappointed on this occasion.

To finish off I’ll leave you with my fave meme of the evening!

30. Sweet Cheesus

My featured business this week is…Sweet Cheesus!

Screen shot 2016-02-01 at 22.11.53.png

I came across this fabulous mini cheesecake company at a bloggers event just before Christmas and they should literally come with a warning as they are probably the most delicious shop bought sweet treats that I have enjoyed in some time!

Flavours include Vanilla, Cookies & Cream, Apple Crumble, Salted Caramel & Pecan (my personal absolute fave!), White Chocolate & Summer Fruits and Salted Caramel (Gluten Free). Each are handmade and are the perfect size for a mini dessert or for a luxurious treat. I can highly recommend trying out all the different flavours. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy the Salted Caramel and Pecan and it ended up being my personal favourite! Why not get your friends over for dinner and buy a selection to share? Or snuggle down in front of a movie on a Sunday night with your favourite to indulge in?

Screen shot 2016-02-01 at 22.11.49.png

They are currently available in Selfridges and in various stockists around London with a view to branching into supermarket chains in the near future so keep your eyes peeled! Once customers get a taste for how good these are they will be flying off the shelves! Visit their website by clicking here and make sure you follow them on Twitter @SweetCheesusUK

If you could have any flavour cheesecake what would it be? Leave your answer in the comments!

#BloggersXmas

On Saturday 5th December 2015 I ventured over to Finch’s Pub in Moorgate to attend the Bloggers Xmas Party hosted by Soeurs De Luxe.

On arrival we were given a beautiful personalised keyring each from Aloha Lola Cards which had a fun caricature and our own Twitter handle on the back. We were also given a fabulous guide to all of the wonderful brands exhibiting on the day.

CVfi0e3W4AAzCU2.jpg

Finch’s Pub was a beautiful setting with cosy armchairs, with twinkly Christmas lights and the smell of freshly cooked chips and mulled cider. It was the perfect location to chat with friends and the brands available on the day.

I met with a variety of brands offering everything from lashes from Lash Perfect, jewellery from Miglio Jewellery, hats from Katherine Elizabeth Millinery, through to green teas from t plus drinks, cheesecake from Sweet Cheesus and even men’s pants from Penny Dreadful! Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the next few weeks as I will be featuring some of the fantastic brands I met on the Pretty & Petit blog! This was all accompanied by nail art, nibbles and a Christmas selfie wall.

I also managed to get my hands on a fantastic magazine called Blogosphere Magazine. I definitely recommend it for anyone thinking of starting up a blog or looking for new blogs to follow. It’s so insightful to read other bloggers work and so inspiring!

At the end of the event we headed home with a fantastic goody bag and lots of new friends and brand contacts. Thank you @SoeursdeLuxe for a fantastic #BloggersXmas event!

#BigBloggerConference

Yesterday I attended the #BigBloggerConference! The event was organised by @LDNMeetUp and was held in Hotel Russell, a beautiful hotel in Russell Square, London. Chandeliers adorned the hallways with beautiful decorative mirrors and gorgeous hanging baskets lined the fence to the grand entrance of the hotel.

We were provided with some cute gifts from Ohh Deer and Jelly Belly and started the day with a number of really insightful workshops, starting with ‘Pinterest 101’ in which Elizabeth Sellers, Pinterest UK Ambassador gave loads of fantastic tips on how to use Pinterest with blogging. This was great as I have been using my personal Pinterest account more and more lately. I love looking through the beautiful pictures, gaining inspiration and creating wishlists! It’s fantastic for my blog too as it features a lot of smaller businesses and Etsy shops which I have not come across yet. I’m always excited about what I may find on there. So make sure you keep an eye out for Pretty & Petit on Pinterest soon!

The lovely Elizabeth navigating us through Pinterest.

Next up we had a workshop from Jasmin Charlotte, Lifestyle Blogger in SEO. I have to admit, whenever I hear ‘SEO’ I seem to cower a little. I absolutely love social media and marketing – I do it as my full time job! but when it comes to SEO something about it makes me want to run into a corner and hide. It’s just not an area that I have an interest in. Jasmin however changed that yesterday. Through providing fantastic tips and advice she informed us of the best ways in which to aid SEO through our blogs. She noted that content is key and provided useful stats about the optimum number of words to include in blog posts and so on. It was very insightful and it was a fun approach to looking at SEO from a bloggers perspective.

The lovely Jasmin providing us with an insight into the world of SEO.

Finally we had a workshop with Sarah Moody of The Prosecco Diaries in how to monetize our blogs. It was so nice to hear a bloggers perspective on how to do this. It is rare to hear of how much a blogger may be earning but with the rise in blogger and vlogger ‘celebrities’ it just goes to show that if you can put the hard work in you will definitely reep the rewards. I’m excited to take on board some of her advice through consultancy and developing my blog brand. It’ll be exciting to see what the future holds for my little blog!

The lovely Sarah sharing her top tips on monetizing our blogs!

We headed out to have some (really delicious) cake! before heading out for lunch in the park opposite the hotel. As you might recall it was a beautiful 29 degrees in London yesterday and it was so nice to see everyone enjoying the hot weather. I definitely recommend heading over to Russell Square if you are ever in London. It’s close to the British Museum and is such a lovely place to stop and have a picnic. They also have a cute little cafe there that sells sandwiches, cake, ice cream and even prosecco!

We headed back to the hotel for the second part of the day which incorporated an exhibition. This interactive exhibition provided us with the opportunity to meet with brands and see their products first hand! I handed out my lovely new business cards and collated information of the amazing brands that were exhibiting. Brands included:

  • Shoeaholics
  • Scoliosis UK
  • Made by Jade
  • The Gifting Lounge
  • Look Fantastic, Beauty Expert and HQ Hair
  • Designed by Henna
  • The Parlour
  • Comb

There were also ‘tweeting’ challenges throughout the afternoon in which we had to provide tips and our favourite products to the brands we had come across throughout the afternoon. Make sure you look out for some reviews of these fantastic brands in the coming weeks!

The Parlour were offering cute braiding on their stand and how could I resist? These cute braids literally lasted all day and I really didn’t want to take it out at the end of the day. Their salon isn’t too far from me so I’m so excited to go and try them out – especially after reading all the amazing reviews they have received!

At the end of the day a raffle was held with proceeds going to the Scoliosis UK charity. I never say no to a raffle and was absolutely delighted when I didn’t only win one prize but two! The first was a lovely gift set from Paul Mitchell and the second was an amazing beauty bundle from W7. I couldn’t wait to get home and try everything out so be prepared for some upcoming reviews soon!

Garden Paradise

Yesterday we visited Quex Park in Birchington, Kent. Covering over 250 acres the park is home to a museum of natural history, a house and gardens. We started off by having a look round the Powell-Cotton Museum, a museum that has a Natural History theme and has some incredible exhibits originating from Africa and Asia. They have to be seen to be believed but I won’t spoil the surprise! It was a wonderful museum and we really enjoyed the fact that it was so child orientated – there was lots of things to see and do including a safari trail and learning about different ways of research through drawing, handling objects and working on the computer. There were lots of amazing interactive elements to the museum which were particularly enjoyable.

As it was such a beautiful, sunny day we went for a walk round the gardens at the back of the house. There was a pretty woodland walk with bluebells and peacocks sheltering under the trees and a large pond to the back of the main lawn. We then walked over to the walled garden (accompanied by the resident cat!) and walked around viewing the different flowers and plants. There was Wisteria over the walls giving it that Secret Garden effect. We walked over to some huge greenhouses which were filled with hundreds of cacti plus lovely smelling Jasmine.

Quex Park is truly a wonderful place to hold weddings and special events. It’s so peaceful and there’s lots of space for little ones to run around. There is something for everyone, including a craft village, Jungle Jims for the little ones and a beautiful garden centre. To find out more and to plan your visit click here.

Pretty & Petit visits The Ideal Home Show

My first time at the Ideal Home Show was last year (2014) on its last occasion in Earls Court. 2015 brings a new era to the show as it makes the move to Kensington Olympia. The event fitted the venue perfectly with each zone in its own separate spacious hall, making the show easy to navigate from any entrance.

header_banner

I usually visit the event on a Thursday evening, which is a bit like late night shopping when the show stays open until 9pm. It’s a nice time to visit as it’s slightly quieter from the day trippers and doesn’t have the weekend rush which means it is far easier to navigate around the event. Make sure you leave plenty of time for your visit though – there is so much to see (and purchase!) and you won’t want to be rushing round at the end!20150402_193300

We entered through the garden section, full of beautiful gardens, inspirational garden houses and beautiful water features. Living in central London currently means we have a bit of a distinct lack of garden but I now feel inspired to fill our balcony with water features, a pergola and a green house along with a hot tub! Maybe I should wait until I have a large enough garden to do that though?!

The food section was our absolute favourite part of the show! There was so much to choose from, everything from Chinese, Indian, Caribbean, Hog Roast, through to Ice Cream and Confectionary! We had delicious chilli and bratwurst German sausages which certainly filled us up! We also had a look around the Willy Wonka chocolate competition – Ideal Cake Decorator of the Year, which had some beautiful cakes!

20150402_194238

British Gas, as one of the main sponsors of the show, provided a number of stands exploring sustainable solutions for the home. There was information provided about loft and cavity wall insulation which will be provided free with support from the Government to the 90% of homes that need it depending on eligibility. You could be saving as much as £145 on your heating bill in a single year by having cavity wall insulation. By having loft insulation you could be saving as much as £150. Click here to find out more!

Smart Meters are the new upgrade to how your energy usage is measured. British Gas is currently upgrading properties with this new technology across the country for their customers. If you are a British Gas customer this will mean you will no longer receive estimated bills, as readings will be automatically taken and sent directly meaning you will have a lot more control enabling you to see just how much energy you are using before your monthly or quarterly bill arrives. Click here to find out more!

Hive is ‘the clever way to control your heating and hot water.’ Using an app from your mobile, computer or tablet, you can control your heating remotely so there is no need to waste money heating an empty home again! It also has an optional feature alerting you if you have left your property with the heating on, again saving you money. Click here to find out more!

You can get a full range of Home Inspiration tips and advice from British Gas by clicking here to visit The Source. Helping you to get the best out of your home.

The Ideal Home Show has a number of show houses on display and this year, in true election spirit they had Number 10 Downing Street as one of the houses! It’s amazing to see how they literally flat pack and build these houses into the event. It’s definitely a key feature of the event.

20150402_191852

I attend a lot of exhibitions and events and what I found especially good about this show was the amount of stalls and businesses exhibiting. It was though every space had been used productively, partly down to the fantastic displays by the stall holders but also by the company that set up the event layout. It was very impressive!

Pretty & Petit visits London Fashion Weekend!

On February 28th 2015, I paid my first ever visit to London Fashion Weekend! I’ve always wanted to attend the event to see what it was like and I’m so glad that I had the opportunity to this time round.

20150228_144345_resizedI met my friend at the entrance to Somerset House, home of the British Fashion Council, on the Strand and we ventured over the cobbles to the large marquee in the centre of the courtyard. This is one of the fabulous venues used over the course of London Fashion Week and is kept in place for London Fashion Weekend which is held for the general public to get a taster.

20150228_145604_resized

First off we collected our limited edition tote bags with a beautiful print from Pringle of Scotland who are celebrating 200 years this year. The bags were filled with products such as Maybelline mascara, a sample of Lavazza coffee, some Garnier facial wipes, Hello Fashion Monthly magazine and much more! 20150228_162114_resized

There seemed to be a lot going on around the event including talks from industry professionals, the opportunity to shop designer labels and emerging talent and various catwalks to attend. There was also a fabulous prosecco bar and a Lavazza coffee shop to relax sore feet from too much retail therapy too!

We attended the Trend catwalk show which comprised of several collections focusing on key trends from The Outnet.com. The trends included Make it Monochrome, Shimmer & Shine, Hyper Florals and That Seventies Show.

I must admit, I haven’t been truly overwhelmed by any of these trends this season. I’m particularly not sure about the 70s trend – for me I just can’t deal with the suede aspect but I absolutely love the flares and I would wear these with a chunky heel. I’ve felt a bit as though retailers are trying to force us into embracing the trend this season and whilst I have seen a few flares and fringing around – no one has taken the plunge and full on embraced it just yet – perhaps everyone is waiting for the Summer? I’m not sure – either way, I’m not quite there yet! As for the other trends I’m a fan of anything floral so this is absolutely perfect. I’m looking forward to getting the florals out in pretty dresses and skirts once Spring has finally sprung! I love the idea of grown up metallics in the Shimmer & Shine collection and have already fallen in love with some chunky heeled sandals in metallic silver from Primark which I will be featuring on my blog very soon! Overall, it was a great insight into the trends of SS15 and it was great to see a spotlight on an online retailer sponsoring the show.

After the show we took a look round the “Shop the catwalk” section of the event which included a range of pieces taken from the catwalk. Some of my absolute favourite pieces are below, all are very unique and particularly stood out to me as one’s to watch!

Pretty & Petit visits The London Bike Show – Feb 2015

On Saturday 14th February with love in the air (a belated Happy Valentine’s Day to all!) we travelled to ExCeL in London to visit the annual London Bike Show!

londonbikeshow2015

This show, perfect for cycling enthusiasts, also including entrance into other shows including the Outdoor and Adventure Show, Triathlon Show and the Dive Show which meant there was something for all fitness fanatics!

We started off the day trialling a few different bikes. The Boxer bikes were fab and great for parents with children.

We then took a walk round the exhibition which was huge and including so many different bike brands. We even spotted Chris Hoy and the Pinarello that Bradley Wiggins rode to victory!

20150214_115412 20150214_125043

I am currently researching Dutch bikes as it will be my major Summer 2015 purchase and was so pleased to see a Bobbins stand at the event. I absolutely love all the different pastel colours available and they are so affordable.

20150214_115844IMG_20150214_16013720150214_115829 20150214_115815Over the day I was also converted into wanting a road bike, especially when I found the Cannondale Synapse bikes (one of which had pink stripes and the other silver glitter!) Despite the colour, the technical aspects of Cannondales are fantastic and definitely something I’m looking to get once my confidence in cycling improves! We also spent a lot of time at the Canyon and Pinarello stands – both amazing bike brands!

20150214_114403 20150214_114948 20150214_11530120150214_12515620150214_130308 20150214_13225620150214_132308

Of course, if you are thinking of buying a new bike, like me, you will need the accessories to go with it! For the girls I found two amazing stands – Velo Vixen, which I have come across before at previous events and Bike Belle, Boutique Cycling Accessories – both of which I am planning to feature soon so keep an eye out for more information about these cute brands.

20150214_12155620150214_121810 20150214_121815Overall, The London Bike Show was a fab day out and something that the whole family can enjoy. From trialling new bikes, to watching thrilling BMX demonstrations to visiting the many different stands available – a great day out!
