Happy New Year from Pretty & Petit

It’s 2016!

A brand new day, a brand new month and a brand new year. We made it through the fabulous fireworks, spending time with family and friends, parties and plenty of prosecco!

So now is the hard part – making New Year resolutions. So the traditional way to do this is literally to think of the standard go to the gym more, eat more healthily and trying to save money up. I’ve kind of given up on these more traditional resolutions and opted for something slightly different. Every year I give myself a series of goals to achieve over the year, checking up on these at key points of the year. Mostly in periods when I have the time to stop and reflect and think about where I am in achieving my goals!

This year one of my resolutions is to give my fabulous readers new ideas, tips and things that literally make you think ‘Wow! I’ve never thought of that before!’

Whether you’re looking to change up your skincare regime, get more followers on your Instagram profile or are unsure of where to go on your holidays this year, we will be bringing you a whole range of ideas and tips for making 2016 your most fabulous year yet! Dear Paris,

I am so truly sorry.

We will all unite for you, whoever we are, we will support you and be there for whatever you need.

Paris is just one city, we must remember that there are people all over the world being caused pain by these atrocious acts on a daily basis. I encourage you as a citizen of this wonderful, amazing, vibrant world to look deeper. To look beyond the face of the media, the Western portrayals that the media wants you to see, to look further into what is happening in countries all over the world including Africa and the Middle East.

Facebook has asked us to change our profile photos temporarily to a French flag and whilst I truly feel devastated for these particular attacks, I want to keep my profile photo filled with colour. Filled with every colour of every flag to represent every country that has ever been inflicted with pain from these utterly pointless attacks on our human race.

Our Paris, you are beautiful. Our World, you are beautiful.

Please stop destroying our beautiful world.

It’s time to stop now.

Something that feeds your soul

Acts of kindness, sharing and giving are all definite things that feed my soul. I like to motivate and inspire people. Through my current job I feel I inspire young people into looking into different career paths through different areas of study. I try and encourage them to think outside of the box by thinking about their skills and then associate them to different careers. I really like to motivate and inspire particularly those who feel as though they may have lost their way slightly or are unsure of what they would like to do in the future.

For special occasions I enjoy creating gift hampers for people. I recently created a wedding hamper filled with treats for a friend of mine. For my sisters birthday I created a hamper full of her favourite things decorating the top with a chalkboard as she has just started a new job in a primary school. I really enjoy personalising gifts and to show that I have put some thought into them.

Do you create your own gifts? I’d love to hear some of your ideas for personalising your gifts.

Share a secret

My absolute dream job is to own a wedding dress shop. I’d love to be surrounded by the most beautiful dresses all day. I love meeting people and to have the knowledge that I would have had some input on their special day would absolutely mean the world to me. Maybe one day!!!

What is your dream job?

A note to your past you

Dear past me,

First of all, stay happy. You will be truly blessed with lots of caring people around you. You’ll have to get through some hard and painful times but you will always have someone there.

Your confidence will grow but you will always be shy – and that’s ok. It’s ok to lack in confidence sometimes and to be unsure. People will help you to grow. Get involved in every opportunity you can. Meet people and experience new things.

Dance and sing every moment you can – enjoy it. Live in the moment and take advantage of those wonderful opportunities you are given.

There will be times when you feel hurt or scared or anxious. Those times will pass – keep telling yourself that and you will get stronger everyday.

Finally, you can be anything you want to be – don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You will live your dreams one day and all the hard work you’re about to go through is going to pay off in the end.
