#apovgiftswap

So here I am – back with a bang! (or for those who know me well, a crash, bang, wallop! Either way, I have left you all for so long and I am terribly sorry to have left you in a lurch wondering if I would ever return but more on my little life update soon enough!

Today I want to let you know about a fabulous initiative I’m getting involved in after stepping back into the beautiful world of blogging. This fun opportunity involves swapping Christmas gifts with fellow bloggers whilst being able to network with one another, sharing ideas, happy thoughts and general positive vibes!

This was something that I got involved with last year and I found it so much fun! It also enabled me to find out more about different blogs and writing styles which was so inspiring.

You’ll be able to see what I received closer to Christmas and I can’t wait to share my favourite Christmas gift ideas!

This year the gift swap is being organised by A Piece of Viola who has a fabulous Travel, Lifestyle and Fashion blog! Take a read by clicking here and if you fancy reading and discovering the blogs of those involved make sure you follow #apovgiftswap on Twitter.

The Importance of Friendship with Huggle

Friendship is one of the most important things in our lives and  Huggle  has asked me to make a list/write about what I think makes a good friend. Huggle is a social app which helps you to discover and connect with people who go to the places you go. It’s a wonderful app for making friends and meeting like-minded people. You can download it here.

I have summed up what I think makes a good friend in a series of quotes below! See if you can spot the Winnie the Pooh inspired one! (Tip: You can find the answer on my Instagram @Prettyandpetit!)

Friends come and go like walks of the ocean but the true ones stick, like an octopus on your face.

Remember you don’t need a certain number of friends, just a number of friends you can be certain of.

It’s not what we have in life, but who we have in our life that matters.

Everyone needs a friend that will call and say, “Get dressed , we are going on an adventure!”

No one will ever be as entertained by us as us.

Distance means so little when someone means so much.

Someone to share the happiest of memories and the deepest of secrets.

How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.

In life have a friend that is like a mirror and shadow; A mirror doesn’t lie and a shadow never leaves.

Promise me, you won’t forget our laughs, our jokes, our smiles, our conversations, our plans, our tears, our memories, our experiences, our friendship.

Something you are proud of

Ok, so this might only be a little thing – and I’m only part of the way there, but I’m exceptionally proud of the fact that I passed my theory test for driving for the first time last weekend! I just couldn’t get to grips with the Hazard Perception part of the test at all in all my practise sessions, always clicking a second later or not scanning the screen properly, so I really revised this part of the test. I felt anxious before the exam too as with regard to the multiple choice section as least I could have some idea of what I would be asked whereas with the Hazard Perception it was more about spotting the hazards whilst on the road which is obviously more of a real life scenario!

On the multiple choice I got one question wrong which was the stopping distance in tunnels. It was the last question on the test and my mind just went totally blank! I managed the rest ok and made sure I checked all of my answers 3 times at least.

So, yey me! I’ll be on the road in no time 😉

Share a flaw

I think I have a few flaws – a few weaknesses, but I feel that I am trying to address each of them positively and working towards resolving them. I think my most major flaw however, which may also be seen as a positive, is my ability to care too much about people and things. Christmas, birthdays and weddings I tend to go overboard on family and friends especially with the hampers I have started creating! Whilst this has an obvious negative effect on my bank balance, I do enjoy filling the hampers with things I know my family and friends will absolutely love.

In my career, I always offer to take on additional work with additional responsibility and always want to look after and care for others. When I was younger I wanted to be a nurse, always wanting to care for those who may have fallen in the playground and I am still offering advice to friends now on the best treatments!

I do have a habit to put others before myself. Sometimes this feels like it can put pressure on me and I have in the past managed to overwhelm myself, taking on too much additional responsibility which at a time of a serious bout of anxiety I was undergoing, perhaps was not the wisest decision to make! I do however, like to care and I personally think it is such a lovely quality to have. So whilst I do care a little too much sometimes I do still see it as a positive and now I am just working towards finding a balance.

Do you have any flaws? What do you think they are? How are you working to adapt or rectify them?

Share a smile

smile-quote

I love to smile. I think a smile can brighten anybody’s day. A smile can comfort, start a conversation, make a new friend, even cheer someone up. It’s a pretty rare thing to see someone smile through the rush hour or when the clouds are grey and brollies tackle the drizzle in central London on a Monday morning but when it does happen, it can truly make someones day. I remember meeting a homeless man and giving him a coffee near Tottenham Court Road, central London, he smiled and said ‘God Bless you’ and that smile absolutely made my day.

So if you feel down, smile at someone, you may feel like a total fool if someone walks straight past – accept it, some people are that way and maybe are just having a rubbish day, if not however, and you find someone smiles back it will make your day!

Share something beautiful

This is an image of Lac du Bourget in France. I found it such a beautiful and inspiring place to relax and chill out for a few days. Do you have a place you like to go to feel stress free and inspired??

Share a scar

My scar is from two foot surgeries that I have had over the past three years. It was an unexpected struggle which I have been learning to live with and accept.

I am currently planning a small tattoo of an anchor to go on the inside of my foot to represent being ‘anchored’ to the ground and to remember not to take my ability to walk for granted and after my upcoming operation I will be getting a shell on the opposite foot to represent ‘strength’ as I think it’s incredible how some seashells, despite all the odds of being shattered to pieces by strong waves and powerful seas can still land on our beaches incredibly intact. This symbolises the strength in both my feet and myself to get back to being fit and healthy.

For those who are not keen on scars etc I suggest you look away now as this is the photo of it!

One thing that’s just for you

One thing I absolutely love is to be creative. I love to draw, paint, colour, make collages, photograph and design new outfits. I have had a few people ask me why I don’t pursue more of a creative role in my profession. I think elements of marketing and certainly now working in events, are creative. I am however, reluctant to pursue a creative career. I studied a media degree at university which I absolutely loved it and I received a 1st for my fashion photography final major project but my desire to continue on into employment within this area expertise just was not there. Looking back now, I think something such as a creative director for photo shoots would have been quite a fun career path – maybe one day!

I enjoy the time that I do work on creative projects and I don’t think I would want to spoil that feeling by associating the pieces I am working on with deadlines. This is why I would say my creativity is just for me. (As well as anyone who visits me to see an abundance of sketchbooks and paintings!)

A note to your past you

Dear past me,

206916_10150178141737733_7979934_n

First of all, stay happy. You will be truly blessed with lots of caring people around you. You’ll have to get through some hard and painful times but you will always have someone there.

Your confidence will grow but you will always be shy – and that’s ok. It’s ok to lack in confidence sometimes and to be unsure. People will help you to grow. Get involved in every opportunity you can. Meet people and experience new things.

Dance and sing every moment you can – enjoy it. Live in the moment and take advantage of those wonderful opportunities you are given.

There will be times when you feel hurt or scared or anxious. Those times will pass – keep telling yourself that and you will get stronger everyday.

Finally, you can be anything you want to be – don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You will live your dreams one day and all the hard work you’re about to go through is going to pay off in the end.
