New Year, New You – New Year, New Mindset!

As part of my ‘New Year, New You’ series this month I’m asking bloggers to share their plans, tips and resolutions for 2016! 

Today is the turn of Amy from Under the Surface who will be discussing New Year Resolutions, how to decide what they should be and how to have a happy and healthy 2016!

I’m here to talk to everyone about New Year Resolutions. Resolutions are goals that people set themselves to complete in the course of a year and they are usually set on the 1st January. A lot of people set themselves relatively healthy and vague goals such as ‘this year I will be healthier’ or ‘this year I will get fit’. Those goals sound great and I want, with this post, to ensure that everyone is setting themselves achievable and healthy goals that will benefit your life in some way.

Firstly, when thinking about New Year Resolutions try to think of what is currently negatively impacting your life and set a goal to change that before adding in another aspect of your life. For example, if you are turning up late to work repeatedly or spending too much money then set yourself goals to fix those aspects of your life before incorporating healthy food and workouts as well  which are unlikely to help what is already negatively happening on a daily basis.

Please note that eating healthy, working out and all the other goals you may have set yourself are great and should be worked towards also. However, to feel the true benefits of a new year then focus on ridding yourself of the negative in your life and that alone will make you feel better. It may not be 100% where you want to be but it is a step in the right direction and after achieving these goals then you can incorporate eating less chocolate, going for more walks or anything else you may fancy.

The 1st of January has gone by so if you are setting yourself resolutions then it is likely you have done so by now. Take this time to look back on those resolutions and ensure they are achievable and that they truly will make you happy. If not, ask yourself what is truly making you unhappy and focus on changing that instead. You don’t have to set yourself a hundred goals or resolutions if you don’t want to. Just one achievable goal will have a tremendous impact.

Guest Post – Skin Care Secrets from Around the World

So I’m very excited to bring you my first ever guest post! It has been written by a lovely lady, Amy Mia Goldsmith, a literature graduate from Melbourne who wanted to write something wonderful for my blog about skincare around the world. Skin Care Secrets from Around the World

Have you ever wondered how girls in India manage to have such a shiny, thick and tamed hair, or how Korean women get that porcelain skin? Of course, genetics have an immense effect on how people in certain parts of the world look like, but women all over the globe have their beauty secrets that are passed down from one generation to another. Chinese girls have a habit of washing their faces with rice water, in Australia, they treat dandruff with tea tree oil, women in Costa Rica use orange juice to shrink the pores, etc. If you think about it, you can probably remember at least one skin care trick which is typical and unique for your country.

To steal some of the beauty secrets, keep reading.

1. Greece: Olive oil for healthy skin.

Greek women have long ago recognized the benefits of olive oil for the skin and complexion. Olive oil is packed with antioxidants and vitamins, and it can be used to treat sunburns, irritations and redness. It is also an excellent moisturizer due to its hydration properties. Apply it directly to your skin or replace the butter and margarine in your diet for this miraculous oil. In Greece (and Italy), olive oil is on the menu every day. Greek women massage it into their skin to soften, nourish and hydrate it.

2. Brazil: Oatmeal to heal a sunburn.

Oat has strong anti-inflammatory and healing properties that women in Brazil have put into good use. They use oatmeal flakes to ease the pain of sunburn, by tying some oats into a gauze and placing them in the bathtub so that the water running from the tap runs through the bag. This way, all the vitamins and minerals from the oats will be washed into the bathtub. Sit in the water for some time to soak up all the good stuff.

3. Bulgaria: Rose water as a facial cleanser.

Bulgaria is famous for its Rose Valley, which produces a great share of the world’s rose water reserves, and Bulgarian women, who swear by the rose water. Rose water can be easily homemade if you make a tea out of rose petals. What is it good for? Well, everything from hydration, cleaning, revitalization, softening and soothing of skin. It is a natural antiseptic and is a great face cleanser for all skin types.

4. Asia: Crushed red grapes and flour for glowing skin.

The secret of Asian women and their luminous complexion lies in red grapes. They regularly use face mask made from crushed red grapes and flour. Make your own mask by taking a handful of grapes, crushing, or grinding them, and mixing with a couple of tablespoons of flour. Mix it well together, apply to your face, leave it sit for ten minutes, and then rinse it. The mask will brighten your fatigued look instantly.

5. Morocco: Argan oil for just about everything.

The popularity of argan oil around the world is constantly growing. This golden oil from Morocco can be used on its own as a body lotion or a leave-in hair conditioner, or as an ingredient in organic skin care products. It has great benefits for the hair. Increased shine, tamed frizz, and silky trusses, are but a few. Just a few drops of the oil massaged into your skin will make the skin soft and rehydrated. I personally use and recommend Capewest Argan Oil Body Lotion which I got from Peter’s of Kensington.
